"POETRY AND FIRE"
with Kevin Lawrence, violin

Kevin Lawrence is director of the string department, North Carolina School of the Arts, and founder/ director of the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, Burlington, Vt.

This program pairs the brilliant, popular Prokofiev violin sonata in D with the rarely heard but exquisite violin sonata of Arthur Foote (1853 - 1937), the first American composer to receive his musical education entirely in the U.S. The program also includes pieces by violinist/composer Fritz Kreisler, whose compositions reflect the lyricism and warmth of his own playing.

Pianists Greenfield and Meyer Thompson perform Ravel's monumental transcription of "La Valse", for 2 pianos.

Program also includes Bach - Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring, Schubert - Grand Rondo in A, Dvorak - Slavonic Dances, Barber - Tango from "Souvenirs", Stravinsky - Russian Sailors Dance from "Petrouchka" and Ravel - Mother Goose Suite.

Pianists Elaine Greenfield and Janice Meyer Thompson perform a special program of French Repertoire.  Pieces will be listed in categories depicting children, humor, exoticism, nature, dance, and new directions. Composers include Fauré, Debussy, Ravel, Bizet, and Poulenc.

Program will be enriched with works of art and poetry recitations.

A group of New England's finest performers present a program filled with several of Schubert's most familiar and beloved works including the "Arpeggione" Sonata (cello & piano), "Trochne Blumen" Variations (flute & piano), "Shepherd on the Rock" (soprano, clarinet, & piano), and Impromptu, Op. 90 #2 in E flat for solo piano.

Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant Jésu

With pianst Paula Enis

 

Pianists Elaine Greenfield and Paul Enis perform selections from Messiaen's incomparable "Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant Jésu" especially for the Christmas season. The program is offered with a 30 minute pre concert talk.

**SONGS AND SOLO PIANO MUSIC BY THE SCHUMANNS**

With Soprano Jill Hallett Levis

Program features songs by both Clara and Robert Schumann. A highlighted work is Robert Schumann's incomparable Frauenliebe und -leben, op. 42. Also included are solo piano works by both Clara and Robert. Master class is available.

THE ART OF DUET PLAYING Friendly, informative program with commentary, designed for students, teachers, parents and general audiences. (Program selections are introduced and duet playing is discussed). Music of Bach, Schubert, Bizet, Faure, Debussy, Stravinsky.
FOR (4) AMERICAN HANDS Pianists Elaine Greenfield and Jan Meyer Thompson perform a program of recent American works for piano four hands, all related to ballet or dance. From tango to tarantella, rag to ritornelle, this music captures the spirit of the dance with a contemporary twist. Composers Samuel Barber, David Burge, John Corigliano, and David See are featured in music written between 1952 and 1995.
  The Transcontinental Piano Duo has performed repertoire of all periods nationwide for 15 years. They are also available for workshops and master classes.

TRADITIONAL PROGRAM Various styles, composers and periods. Currently: works by Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, and Debussy, Messiaen.

Friday, trip to Historical Piano Study Center, Ashburnham, MA
Saturday, participant recital at the Center, performed on historic instruments

Class focuses on comparative performance between modern pianos & period instruments.  The week culminates in a trip to the Frederick Collection of period instruments, located at the Historical Piano Study Center. Suitable repertoire is Classical - early 20th century. Participants work on repertoire through the week, practice on composers' appropriate period instruments at the Center on Friday, and on Saturday perform a recital on those instruments. Class limited to five participants.

$275 for the week, plus $25 donation to Historical Piano Study Center.
Plan a bit extra for accommodations, meals, gas share for MA trip.

Teacher Enrichment Study - 12 lessons for piano instructors

Designed for teachers of Late Elementary to Early Advanced students. Focus on Baroque through Contemporary student repertoire, teaching techniques, learning/memorization techniques, keyboard awareness, and a "physiorhythmic"/ear centered approach to pianism and teaching. 12 weekly or biweekly 1 or 1 1/2 hr. private sessions. Can also be designed for a small group (3 - 4 people max.) It is possible to apply for MTNA funding for this project.
